Fostering Innovation

The entire Lithgow Valley is steeped in a history of Innovation, including the site of the STEAM Fair, the old Portland cement Works.

In its hey day during the industrial revolution Portland Cement Works was an industrial marvel with a STEAM driven power-plant running an automated production facility creating cement used in Sydney’s post war building boom!

The Inventors space will include local inventors who have recently delivered innovative products to the market as well as the opportunity for local DIY Inventors to showcase their own inventions.

During the STEAMFair you will hear from the inventor behind the countries first solar tourist train, now operational in Byron Bay.

Getting to the STEAMFair

The STEAM Fair will be held across multiple sites at The Foundations, Portland NSW. The STEAM Fair EXPO and ‘tours’ meeting place will be held at the main precinct and Powerhouse building, the ‘talks’ program and STEAM Fair art exhibition are held The Annexe building, with water based activities taking place around The Millpond.

The Foundations is a heritage-listed site of the former Portland Cement Works Precinct in Central West NSW, a 2.5 hour drive from Sydney. It is a rare combination of industrial heritage and natural beauty that is being revitalised into a unique regional destination, offering a diverse range of authentic cultural, educational, community and recreational experiences.
